Discover the power of subconscious mind. We are going to define attitude and find the mind body connection. What is attitude? Attitude is a choice! In fact all that you choose to think about and do are your choices.
Let’s start with a little biology. You have two minds and these occupy the same area of your brain. The conscious mind and your subconscious mind.
The conscious mind is your creative mind. This is where you have the visions of what you choose for your life. Your wishes, desires and aspirations. When you are thinking about what you will have for dinner, where you will be going for dinner and what you will be doing after dinner.
The subconscious mind is your habit mind. The mind that takes over when you are on “auto-pilot” doing things that you don’t really notice you’re doing. The subconscious mind is where your programs are stored.
But where did these programs come from?
The scientists tell us that for the first six years of your life, including the last six months of your foetal development, your subconscious mind is downloading information by observing how your father responds to your mother (if you are a boy) or how your mother responds to your father (if you are a girl). You register how your parents respond to their community, how people that you come into contact with behave, the television, your religious leaders, your parent’s friends and pretty much anyone else that you come into contact with in those early years.
You see, before the age of six, your brain is in the lower frequency which is called Theta. This is when your mind is in the hypnogogic state and when the subconscious mind is in the “record” mode.
So now you can begin to see the power of subconscious mind. It dictates the way you see and react to situations in your life, based on your programming. These programs become your beliefs and most of these are constraining, dis-empowering and sabotaging what you choose to manifest into your life.
The most important point to realise is that the fundamental behavioural programs in your subconscious mind did not come from you. They came from observing your parents, your family and your community.
These are not your programs – you copied them from the people around you!
And here’s another scientific fact!
We operate about 95% of the time from the beliefs and programs in our subconscious mind and only 5% of our life is operating from our conscious mind.
So now as an adult you have set goals that you understand and feel passionate about. However for 95% of the time you are operating with someone else’s programs which may be undermining your goals without your even being aware of it.
So what might some of these programs be?
Well you heard you parents say so often that “money does not grow on trees” and “we cannot afford this” and maybe “you will never be able to became ... because it is too difficult” or “you don’t deserve that” and “you will never amount to anything”. There are many more.
Richard Brodie calls these Memes and I have a whole segment on this subject. In the next segment you will learn about virus of the mind.
The good news is that you can do something about it!
You will only be able to manifest whatever it is that you have chosen for your life when you reprogram the belief in your subconscious mind that is preventing you from attaining that goal.
You can read all the self-help books and attend numerous motivational talks but it is not until you get rid of those sub-conscious programs which control your life, that you start achieving your goals.
You see; when you are reading the books and listening to those motivational speakers, you are operating from your conscious mind and you understand it all. Then you go back to your normal everyday life and for 95% of the time, you are operating from someone else’s programming and the memes start blocking your progress sub-consciously.
So how do you reprogram your subconscious mind?
There are several methods such as psychoanalysis or hypnotism to get you into the Theta or hypnogogic trance.
I do not recommend psychoanalysis because you don't need to start dredging everything out. Some of the stuff that you dealt with as a child you may not be able to handle as an adult.
You only need to address those issues that are blocking you from achieving your goals. Those things that you find hard to deal with. Look at your life. What are you struggling with?
This is why I got you to fill in the goal setting form. The statements that you made in the second column are your stumbling blocks. Those are the issues that you need to address.
Hypnotists will get you into the hypnogogig trance when you may “record” new programs into your subconscious mind. But there is a cheaper and easier way to re-program your subconscious mind.
I use the method as described by Peter Haddon in his book entitled “How to change your life without effort to achieve everything you desire”.
You will be recording statements which you will listen to as you are going to sleep.
Just before you go to sleep for about ten minutes, your mind goes through the Theta frequency. So for a short time your subconscious mind is in record mode.
